As various members of the Greek pantheon, Helen’s family are gorgeous, powerful, agitating, unconventional and yet somehow incredibly recognisable as a normal family. The novel follows the protagonist, Helen, as she navigates being a London teenager who also happens to be a daughter of Zeus! It's nice to see a novel embrace the diversity of its characters, setting and readership in a non-cliched and realistic way, even with its fantastical elements.

Family relations are explored, and it's good to see that immortality doesn't make too big a difference in the dysfunctions that we all experience with our own parents, siblings and cousins! I read this in under 6 hours - while eating and travelling - which I think is a testament to how unputdownable it is!

This is exactly the type of book I needed and would loved to have read as a teenager growing up in London. Sensitive and hilariously self-deprecating, Helen is also a fully-realised protagonist who is incredibly believable as a character - I found myself rooting for her immediately and cringing alongside her as I relived my own teenage shames! I'm a secondary school English teacher so I'm excited to introduce my students to Helen in January! This fabulous novel is an entertaining look at what some of the Greek Gods might be doing with their lives if they based themselves down on earth, and while you might think being related to some immortal beings would offer fantastic rewards, Helen (the main character in the novel) will soon highlight the downside of being the half-mortal daughter of Zeus!

It was so heartwarming to read a book with a character I could relate to because we shared a common background. Aside from the demi-god drama, my favourite moments in ‘Oh My Gods’ were the nostalgic depictions of (North) London life, the characters' enjoyment of food, and the descriptions of Helen’s West Indian family. At the same time, the author captures perfectly the daily concerns of a teenage girl - dating, friendships, self-image and the drama and complications that can come from being part of a "non-traditional" family. The story is fast paced, fun and an absolute joy to read - I couldn't put it down and I'd recommend getting it for the young (and older) people in your life.
