They are the interface with your computer. I would recommend it. I still have my other iMac with its second monitor on the desk. I've just bought a iMac 27in Retina display, and needed a second monitor.

Thank you to the other reviewers for sharing their findings, it was very helpful. One of the best monitors I've ever seen! I eventually resorted to 3x HDMI connections (this depends on what your graphics card offers, of course) and this sorted matters entirely. Minor tinkering with each monitor control sorted this - start by adopting the basic "movie" setting for a paper white background.

There were two main improvements that I was looking for - the same colour balance across all three monitors, and a narrower bezel between monitors (giving the semblance of one wide screen). Using the new one for photoshop and Quark, the older one for photos and email. Ive got it vertical, it looks well braw! What I also found was that there is very little reflection off the monitor screens - excellent!
