I couldn't put it down! My friend Chuck recommended this. See my website page www. Back and forth we go, tension ratcheting up until they finally meet in war.

The way Franz cried for a bear who lost his life because of the evils of the Germans and the death of this bear hurt Franz as much as the loss of his own blood brother tells you the compassion and moral standing of the great man. Oddly enough I have had a desktop Background of this exact situation on my laptop for at least the last yearbefore running across this excellent read. I found a deep new respect for the german pilots of WWII and was very surprised at the conditions theylived through both during and after the war. This experience softened Stigler's view of the importance of glory and honors, to the point of giving other new pilots credit for planes he himself had destroyed.

This is a "good-read" book for young adult readers with a very powerful moral example that unfolds naturally. 8th Air Force as Charlie (the B-17 pilot in the story).

Brown and his surviving crew went on to fly other planes, completed their quota of missions without incident, and returned safely stateside. I hope these guys write many more books.

They only fought as any soldier would under orders. So I searched around and came across A higher Call and bam I was in love. Well written thru the pilots interviews during the process. The Versailles Treaty prohibited Germany from the manufacture of engine-powered fixed-wing aircraft, so the future Luftwaffe cut its teeth by building and flying gliders.

It not only tells a great story and describes the history vividly; it provides a tremendous opportunity to consider when and how—or if—warriors should temper duty with compassion. Just my opinionLarry Bolger I was so taken by this book that I took my family to Oshkosh Wisconsin EAA Air Venture at the end of July 2015 to see the world's largest airshow and as a special treat the family booked a ride in a B-17 World War II Aircraft to fly for 30 minutes to have a better understanding of what our young men felt like when flying in the B-17 world war II airplane darning the war.

Before I read this book i would never have saluted a German WW2 veteran, but now so long as they were not sworn Nazis I will gladly salute a German Air force veteran. Stigler rescued Charlie Brown's battered Ye Olde Pub, by escorting it out of Germany, using a ruse to bypass deadly anti-aircraft batteries, until the distressed B-17 cleared safely over the North Sea, where Stigler peeled off, giving Brown a salute and a wave.
