The characters and interactions between them are brilliantly well-rounded and believable. The setting is unusual, below ground, dark and ominous.
I loved Newt, the main protagonist, who is strong, smart and capable. A well deserved Waterstone’s prize winner! Bearmouth is an original, compelling tale of friendship, loyalty, love and social injustice.
There were some dark scenes but they are necessary to get across the living conditions. The way it’s written will surprise you as soon as you open the book. This is such a unique book in many ways.
