Aquila Chrysaetos
I really enjoyed the humorous depictions of human foibles. Macmillan's Collector's Library editions are such pretty little books. It is such a fitting format for this title. I'm sure many reader will have met at least one or two of the personality types so expertly depicted herein.
Was that a style then? Lady Boxe has no eyebrows! This one is especially so with the colorful artwork on the jacket.
This book feels a bit like a visit with the Provincial Lady where I've stayed long enough to get a feel for the tenor of the house. There is charming line art which definitely looks like it is original to the first edition. The setting of the Diary is late 1920s English countryside.
Her attempts to please everyone are accompanied by her inner thoughts which are often entertainingly in opposition.
