Whatever its use, the four-leg is curated to add an extra level of support and comfort. The narrow spindles either side that support the curved backrest are not often seen in Chinese furniture - although they did appear on chairs in the late Qing dynasty, specifically on smaller pieces known as rose chairs, used normally in ladies' quarters. This lovely black lacquer chair has the same 'S' shaped legs forming an hourglass shape at the front and back, as well as a slightly curved seat with a rattan inlay, it goes perfectly with our cross legged desk or can be used separately for occasional seating.
