It can’t be argued that visually, this movie is stunning. Whether you buy it on standard blu-ray or 4K blu-ray, this is a must buy and I’m very satisfied with the presentation of both versions of the movie. But I think ‘Wings of Desire’ is far more engaging at approaching the deepest life questions. But using fire to fight fire works really well with Barbie.

latest home release of 2023 is the highly anticipated smash-hit Barbie by Greta Gerwig. The blu-ray in particular is surprisingly beautiful. Glad I did.

Any shortcomings blu-ray releases tend to have in comparison to their 4K counterparts, here are less noticeable due primarily to the solid colours, the purposefully fake looking environments and the overall plastic stylisation of the movie. I know, a different level. ’ Whilst it may believe it’s self-awareness time it falls short on seeing the money system that grinds you into something else.
On headphones you really dig the funky town. A bit 2+2 maybe, but I’d love to write the sequel! 6th February 2024 got me buying Barbie with me veg in Supermarket. But the ongoing philosophical banter is clearer with subtitles.
Yes the HDR of the 4K is going to stand above the standard blu-ray every time. the blu-ray wins points over the 4K, as it’s packaged inside a bright Barbie pink Amaray case which gives it that premium “I’m a smash hit blockbuster” aesthetic whereas the 4k disappointingly comes in the traditional all black 4K headed Amaray case. The left half is the 4K and the right half is the standard blu-ray.
Plastic philosophy literally and deeply. Barbie might be one of those rare instances where if you are seriously deliberating between the two then the blu-ray might be the better option. Underneath it all it is trying to accept that individuals are nothing like movie stars or television celebrities and does make the case for distinction between the two. If you’re the type that loves all their 4K cases to look the same then this won’t be an issue, however the pink of the blu-ray really stands out in my collection and although I would usually buy 4K discs over blu-ray discs, I’m incredibly pleased with it sitting on my shelves.
