l loved how it felt like Dora was talking directly to me and the lots of unlikable side characters added to my unease and distrust. The knowledge gained from these interviews shines through the words on the page and the three-dimensional characterisation of Dora. Parks has imbued such life into Dora that it’s very hard not to be completely and utterly charmed by her. She isn’t the only one with a plan though.

One Last Secret by Adele ParksI give this book 4. I had a sneaky feeling about one thing but I was completely blindsided by other reveals which made this such an amazing page turner of a book. I enjoyed this book so much that I will definitely be diving into another of Parks’ books again very soon.

Highly recommend. While her accounts might have taken some people by surprise this old dog didn’t learn any new tricks. I felt like Dora could be my sister, my cousin, my friend…just about any female I know.

You will have to read it to find out. I felt a strong desire to protect her, whilst also feeling her resilience and moments of strength leaping off the page.

Dora’s voice is such a struggle presence in the novel that I really felt like I was being granted access to inside her head. Then she takes one last job…. The twists and turns as the story unfolds will make you gasp out loud. I was immediately drawn into Dora’s life and felt a connection to her from the very beginning.
Adele is an extremely talented author and the plot was well written and intense. An absorbing past and present storyline about sex, power and control pulls no punches. I do trust that Adele knows her characters better than I do though so I went with the flow and took a trip with Dora to the château. She has been through some harrowing experiences and her gradual slide into escort work is explained with such a plausibility that it really feels like it could happen to any woman in real life.
I have stated in previous reviews that Adele writes characters that are ordinary folk put in extraordinary situations…… Well I take it all back as there’s is nothing ordinary about Dora. The opening lines sucked me straight into this absolutely gripping domestic noir thriller. She is secretive and not even entirely honest with her best friend Evan or her booking agent Elspeth.
