Using a media player on each computer, I can treat the shared folders like local files and they play perfectly. Most operations come down to clicking on a file, which is good. (image5) and that quieted it down considerably.

Finally, although it's not much of a problem, when the NAS goes into standby mode the Drive LED flashes. But beyond that, you should look for something else.

I can recommend it for LAN file shares and local backups. So I reformed them myself with a pair of pliers, my warranty is gone but the drives fit properly now. But it flashes on a 15 second cycle, meaning that to see if the drives are spun down you might have to stare at the NAS box for 15 or more seconds.

Next when I loaded it up with a pair of 4tb Western Digital Red Plus drives (image 4) everything worked but the device made a drumming noise like someone tapping their fingers on a table. I was thinking about setting up a personal web server for a website I maintain. The only option is recreate all the shares by hand then copy the files back one share at a time. To fix this I added some thin cork sheeting to inside of the slide off cover.
